April Holidays

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April is from Latin aperio “to open”- like buds. The month is dedicated to Venus, and sometimes they called it Mensis Veneris rather than Aprilis. The Anglo-Saxon name is Eastermonath, and the Franks called it Ostarmanoth (whether Eostre the goddess was named “spring”, or the months were named for her, is unknown). The Irish word for April is Aibrean or an Giblean, while the end of April is known as Seachtain an t-Sionnaich, end of the winds. In Finnish April is huhtikuu, meaning slash-and-burn moon. Mounichion was the Athenian month of April. Nissan (The month of Happiness) was the Babylonian first month of the year (starting at the equinox), and the Hebrews called it the month of Aviv.
The flower for April is Sweet pea, (alt. Daisy/peony). April’s birthstone is Diamond (occasionally sapphire, or rock crystal) Aries birthstone is diamond. The Full Pink Moon will be at on Tuesday April 15, (there’ll be an Eclipse). Most of April is in Aries, but Taurus begins on April 20th (Taurus birthstone is Emerald.) Aries also lays claim to amethyst, carnelian, garnet, fire agate, pink tourmaline, and topaz, while aquamarine, lapis lazuli, kunzite, rose quartz, and sapphire are associated with Taurus.
