About me

I am an artist, writer, healer, and eclectic pagan-heathen-rustic. I  teach, write, paint, sculpt and enjoy exploring many crafts. With Jane Sibley, I founded the Changing Times-Changing Worlds interfaith esoteric conference, designed to expand the knowledge of (super)natural human abilities at the intermediate and advanced levels. I’ve been openly pagan in my community for over 40 years, and have learned that relations with the neighbors have more to do with keeping your animals penned properly than your spiritual beliefs. We have a small “almost a farm” in southern New Hampshire with a varying assortment of animals (goats, rabbits, chicken, ducks, geese, peafowl, sheep, pigs, and more over the years- much fewer now that I’m traveling most weekends.)  I’ve studied both the modern neo-pagan movement and historical paganism; I love teaching various healing systems from herbalism to RunValdr and many forms of divination. I paint book covers, portraits, sculpts votives and altar images, and wrote Divine Cookies, and other cookbooks.

When we live consciously, every act is a prayer.

My legal name is Virginia Fair Richards-Taylor, but my friends call me Tchipakkan.

Tchipakkan is pronounced Chip ah khan- the T is silent. It means Dance of the Dead and is a word for the Aurora Borealis. Pretty much the only ones who call me Mrs. Taylor are also legal entities, like the government or banks or the Red Cross.

My education consists of 30+ years of self-study, experimentation and practice, and various workshops including Reiki Training, and the Advanced Huna Healing Course.

I’ve taught at Etheracon, Ecumenicon, ConVocation, Beltane a Pagan Odyssey, A Sacred Place Beltain, Feast of Three Ravens, Rites of Spring, King Arthur’s Fair, Pennsic Wars, SCA East Kingdom University, and other SCA events, Changing Times-Changing Worlds, Mithracon, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, Southeastern Mass, Eastern Mass, and Western Massachusetts Pagan Pride Days, NE Mensa Regional Gathering, East Coast Thing, Trothmoot, Womon Gathering, Manneheim Mid-Atlantic, Harvest Home, Darkover Con, and Asphodel College of Brigantia, and other events.

I am currently working on my new book, Subtle Pagans, as well as articles in various magazines, and a small pile of booklets on Anglo-Saxon areas of interest for the SCA. I’ll put a full list of my existing publications is on the Writings page (as soon as I make it), and you can purchase several of them (or download some for free!) at our online store. (as soon as I make that link).
