2016 New Normal Shows

January 7, 2016. Underlying Principles of Divination

New Years, being liminal time is a big night for divination, and I’ve been thinking about the many techniques and methods of divination since then, and the underlying principals that “explain” how they work. (And isn’t that what we’re trying to do?

Some forms of divination carry messages from otherworldly beings- gods, ancestors, angels, guides and totems, Others put you in contact with your inner self (or selves), your higher self, or your subconscious, either of which may be thought to have access to awareness that our conscious self suppresses. Other forms of divination are simply ways of observing patterns in the world, similar to techniques used for medical diagnosis, or predicting the weather.

This week I have no guest, but will be rambling on about these techniques and principles, although I’d love to hear from other practitioners. Please call and share your perspective, and experiences, whether you read cards or palms, do psychometry or scrying, or pass on information from friends on the “other side”.

I also plan to talk a little about learning some of these systems, so if you want to share advice on what books or systems you’d recommend to beginners, do join me!

January 20, 2016 Jane Gray (Brenna) Books and Pop Culture Magick

This week we are going to talk about books and Pop culture Magick! I love books, and most of my friends do too. This week my guest is going to be Jane Gray, (aka Elegant Mess) who is a Second Generation Geek, posing as cheerful and mild-mannered Bookwitch. She’s a literary critic with a penchant for purple, paperbacks and pretty costume dramas.

On facebook you can check out her page Jane Gray, the Bookwyrm’s Lair. On Vimeo, you can see some of her reviews on supernatural subject matter at Elegant Mess on Vimeo.

We’ll probably talk about recent and upcoming books she’s read (what’s your “must read” list for people who are interested in magick?), While setting this up she mentioned an upcoming Lovecraftian horror “life of Lizzie Borden”.

We’re also going to talk about Popculture magick, a subject that gets a lot of attention at the CTCW conference. The truth is, that magick is mostly learned by personal experimentation, and we get a lot of our ideas from the fiction we read. The popular fiction of the last century has shaped the magic we use in the 21st. I know there are a lot of authors from Bob Asprin to Kathrine Kurtz who have had as much impact on my understanding of Magick as any of the “how-to” books from Llewellyn!

January 28, 2016 Taylor Elwood Space Time Magick

Join Tchipakkan and Taylor Ellwood as we discuss space/time magic and how it works. We’ll explore what the fundamental principles of space/time magic are and how someone can work with space/time magic. We’ll even mix in some pop culture magic and look at how pop culture mythology encourages space/time magic. The study of metaphysics is the study of reality- how the multiverse works. Since it’s all connected, I expect we will explore a range of topics.

Taylor Ellwood is a self described mad scientist, magical experimenter and a publisher of cutting edge esoteric books. “I’m always developing new systems of magic, combining various magical practices and techniques with other disciplines and practices. I also teach classes on magic, provide tarot readings, and offer one-on-one magical apprenticeships for anyone looking to expand their spiritual horizons and change the way they understand practice magic.

“I have a broad and extensive background in both Western and Eastern esoteric practices including Taoism, Dzogchen, Chaos magic, neoshamanism, Hermeticism, Quabalah, and so on and so forth. But I’m interested in more than just the esoteric traditions and because I believe in living a holistic life, I think its important to apply everything I know to my spiritual practices (and vice versa) so you won’t just find me exploring magic, but also business, science, literacy, and other topics, in order to apply all of them to each other and as a result experiment with what I can do as a magician and a human being.”

February 3, 2016. Catherine Kane is Everyone Psychic?

Cathy writes: (from her blog: foresightyourctpsychic)
“Is everyone psychic? I don’t know. I haven’t met everyone yet, but we’ve got another podcast coming up where we’re going to talk about that.

“We’ll be talking abut psychic abilities- what kind of psychic skills there are, how to know if you’re psychic, ways to build your psychic skills and fun and useful things you can do with them.

“If you close your eyes and concentrate now, I’ll bet that you can catch a glimpse of how much fun this show is going to be!

“Want to catch this interview, call in with your own questions or be part of the live chat happening during every show?

If you just want to listen, you can go to the above site, click the “Listen Live and Chat” listing under the “radio-listen/chat room” heading, and click “LISTEN HERE” next to “the New Normal”.

February 10, 2016.  Thor Halvorsen Divination, Symbology, Culture and Identity

Join Tchipakkan and guest Thor Halvorson as they talk about divination as an approach to tarot, symbology, culture, and identity. There are not quite as many ways of using the Tarot cards as there are those who use them (although some might say there are more, as many of us use them in more than one way), so let’s look at a few.

We’re going to try to cover active and passive divination, active including scrying, tarot, reading tealeaves, runes, trance, etc. Talk about philosophy, history, cultural impact, symbolism, intuitive vs more intellectual approaches, divine interaction and natural divination, and we’ll probably jump from one to another of these subjects.

Thor is a Deaf, Norwegian-Welsh, Poet, Musician, Pagan, Wiccan, computer-tinkin’-sci-fi fella; Military Brat, lived in Korea and Germany (traveled around a bit of Europe too), Clergy, Educational Interpreter, Poet, Reader of Runes and Tarot, Deaf Educator, Deaf Professional, with a fond appreciation for history, mythology, religion and social structure and sociology. “I’m an Elder First Degree, Coven of Amber Heart, Coven of Amber Rose Tradition. My Path of Study is Norse, Welsh (Mostly Norse). I’m an Educational Interpreter, SMCPS, St. Mary’s County, MD going for a degree in Deaf Education, MA. I’m trying to formulate a functional foundational work-in-progress representation of pagan/wiccan’s religious concepts and language and forms into American Sign Language with myself and other willing contribution of other Deaf Pagans”

February 17, 2016. Runes

In my opinion, Runes are not Tarot Cards. That said, I do accept that any system of divination that works – works. You can make up systems from scratch. You can incorporate bits of different systems together, and they will work. There is an amazing story (sorry, I don’t remember the source) about a cliff face in Scandinavia where it looks like there’s a long strip of runes cut into the rock, and when I say long, I mean a half mile. Someone copied them and translated them from Old Norse which resulted in a lovely poem in an ancient style. Except that later, it turned out that the “runes” were just the natural, random fragmentation of the rock. I’d say this is sort of a “if a hundred monkeys bank on a hundred typewriters for enough years…” situation. Something in the soul of the transcriber saw poetry in the marks, and the poem was there, even though no one wrote it, and no one else had seen it. Divination sometimes works like that.

A rock that has an inclusion shaped like a Hagal that you trip over has been there for millions of years, maybe dozens of people have even tripped over it. But if YOU see it, and see the hagel, and it feels like that’s a message for you that day, there probably is. You might not trip on it tomorrow, or might not see the hagal even if you trip on it on another day. That’s how omens work. The runes are just the symbol set- the vocabulary your subconscious is using to talk to your consciousness.  Another person might see kanji or an astrological symbol. We see what we need to see.

Even so, I don’t like reading runes as if they were tarot cards. I think the “Myrkrune”  (reading any rune that’s “upside down” as the darker, or more negative aspects of the symbolism) as being borrowed straight from Tarot cards, and inappropriately. I love the Tarot. I think reading reversals is a great way for a more nuanced reading (if you want me to do a show on tarot reversals, let me know) but that’s tarot. The lesser arcana are symbols using numbers and elemental qualities, and the major arcana draw on assorted archetypal symbolism from Western Ceremonial Magic which has evolved over the past few centuries. But Runes don’t have reversals. They were written backwards, frontwards, upside down, and around the freaking dragon! It’s historically inappropriate, and besides which, there are other ways to get a nuanced reading!

I learned to read runes from Jane Sibley in the SCA (in the Soothsayer’s Guild), and her technique uses Rune sticks. There are two ways of making rune sticks- one is to take a branch (I used pieces from our orchard about the size of my wrist) and split them with a knife & mallet. Jane uses twigs. I use the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, Jane uses the Younger Futhark. Either way the runes are marked on each stick or “tine”. Use the symbol set that speaks to you. You can also make a quick starter set with simple popsicle sticks or coffee stirrers. I’m hoping Jane calls in, and we can talk about Runes and Divination, but I also plan to talk about the history of runes and how they were used for communication and magick more than divination. I or we’ll talk about Ralph Blum’s rune tiles and whatever else comes up.

February 24, 2016  Holidays and Rites of Passage

Those who’ve known me for long know that my passions include history and food, and these come together to create a fascination with holidays. Why are certain days considered holy? Why do humans need holidays? What do they have in common?

Many times holidays provide an occasion for us to stop and orient ourselves with our culture, with the world around us (passing of seasons), or with the gods and spirits with whom we interact. Rites of Passage usually mark a change in our relationships with others- birth, death, marriage, becoming an adult, joining a group that is seen as different from other groups within our culture. Often we take these occasions to remind ourselves of old stories, we eat (or avoid) special foods, we clean ourselves and our living spaces. If these actions weren’t important, they would not be so prevalent. Looking at what they mean, what they do, we can make them more meaningful in our own lives. When we don’t celebrate the “mainstream” holidays, and try to get time off for minority religious or personal holidays, how does that effect your relationship with those around you, both those who share, and who don’t share your faith based holiday?

March 9, 2016  Introduction to RúnValdr

RúnValdr is a system of energy manipulation that was created starting in 2004 by Rod Cox, and he’s developed it since then. It has a strong resemblance to the energy healing system Reiki, but encorporates the Scandinavian symbol set known as the Runes, and several other symbols created for this system as well.

I’ve been teaching, and using, this system for over 10 years now, and know that it works. I have used it to stop at least a dozen migraines- and that all by itself would justify learning this technique, but it does so much more. You can use it for protection, you can use it for healing, you can use it for astral travel, and for creating magickal objects.

I am not going to be able to “attune” you during the podcast (I’ll explain what that is) basically to enable you to use this system, but I can cover the background information that we always need to set first. If you like what you hear, you can contact me or Rod, or the people we’ve attuned, or they’ve attuned and we’ll keep spreading this farther.

I figure the more healers out there, the better in this world.

You will want to go to my website to access visuals to follow along.

https://tchipakkan.wordpress.com/psychic-stuff/healing/runvaldr/run-valdr-symbols/

After hearing this Introduction to RunValdr, some people decide they really want to have the attunement, and some decline- either way is OK. There are many ways to access the various energies humans can manipulate, and only you can say which are the one(s) that are right for you. I like the energy of the runes, and the direct way that RúnValdr works.

March 23, 2016 Mike Dolan artist at large Magical Marketplace

http://tobtr.com/s/8554377

We’ll be talking about the importance and interest in psychic events/ fairs/ conferences in the modern world. Mike Dolan is a man who wears many hats, he’s a musician (he performed with the group Featherscale, and now alone), a craftsman (practically a wizard in wood who, indeed, makes wands among other things sold through his business Haunted Wood. He teaches, (care and feeding of magical tools at Changing Times-Changing Worlds). He has done painting as street performance, he writes, he consults, and for the last five years he has organized a psychic fair in New Hampshire coming up on April 2nd: the Magick Marketplace and Psychic Fair.

Almost any weekend you can find some gathering of people interested in magic and psychic phenomena somewhere, and I’m looking forward to asking Mike for his perspective on what it is about this side of our lives that makes us need this sort of gathering. We love the cool stuff to buy, the entertainment, the workshops, and who doesn’t want to get some word from “the other side” on how to make their life work better? I’ll ask him how he finds and chooses the merchants and soothsayers, healers and psychics who make this event so popular, and why there is still a place for this sort of fair in the modern world.

We’ll hear about the event in two weeks, but also about others of which he’s been a part from Pagan Pride Days to working at A Sacred Place.

March 30, 2016 Jeffrey Cerneson. Cunning man Author, Poet, Pharmakeute

Cunningfolk were the folk healers and magick users who practiced into to the 20th century in many areas. Called wisemen and women, healers, fixers, virtuous ones, some called themselves white witches, while others insisted they were the opposite of witches, helping to counter bad magick with good. Although what they called themselves varied by region and individual, they were definitely magick users. Even in the modern world as scientists distanced themselves from magick, belief continues, since it’s harder to disbelieve when you’ve experienced it.

Jeffrey Cerneson is a modern cunningman from New England who embraces both the modern and ancient world, combining practices from many cultures.

JEFFREY CERNESON has been wandering the crooked paths of sorcery for nearly 30 years. His journey began after a series of personal and spiritual crises following his involvement in the first Gulf War. His wanderings led him from humble beginnings in Anglo-Saxon traditions to the mountains, temples, and hidden doors of the ancient wisdom of the Wu Shaman of China; those Taoist Sorcerers and Sages who have preserved the old sorcery in their secret martial, healing and spiritual arts. He has been trained as a Daoshi; priest, healer and alchemist, by such teachers as Huo Zhi Lian, Tzu Kuo Shih, and Feng Song, and is accounted a disciple of the Tao. From his wanderings in the Far East, he returned to explore the roots of his own blood and ties to the land of his birth. Being of Abenaki heritage, he undertook an apprenticeship in Native American Medicine ways and healing in exchange for the knowledge he brought from China. There he learned singing medicine, the Medicine of the sweat house and the sacred pipe, and the calling of spirits for healing, power, and balance. As he became a primary singer for an Absaroke Wicasa Wakan (Crow tribe ceremonial leader, and medicine person)., his own medicine grew, as did his yearning for his European heritage. While this training was essential to deeper understanding, it has always been in his own cultural heritage that his heart belonged, so he returned to studies of both his Norman ancestors as well as his Southern French ancestry. He began to re-examine the cunning arts of the Northern peoples on his own. With his newly awakened senses, and comparing what he experienced afar with what has been written and passed down, his wisdom potency and insight have grown beyond what was ever possible for him before those wanderings. Perhaps most important to the integration of all that he has learned, he has studied the Old World Witchery of Southern Europe, and the Etruscans through training and initiation with Raven Grimassi, and Stephanie Taylor-Grimassi. He is an initiated member of the Ash, Birch and Willow tradition and as such is a Pharmakeute; spiritual botanist and also a cunning person of the Greenwood who lives in partnership with the green world as the heart of his life.

April 1, 2016  4-6-16, Starwolf, exotic crystals

Starwolf will be Tchipakkan’s guest from 8-9 on the New Normal with Tchipakkan on Wednesday April 6th.

In previous visits he’s talked about quartz crystals, and calcites and this time we’ll be getting to some of the properties of more rare forms: Moldavite, and Tectites, and possibly we may get to other rare crystals, although previous shows have shown that there is SO much cool information on each crystal that Starwolf can go on for the whole hour.

Starwolf is a shaman, Metaphysicist, and Paranormal Soldier of Fortune. He lifts hexes, puts up wards, deals with entities most people don’t want to admit exist, and builds amazing metaphysical machines. Tune in to hear his stories, and call in with questions about the properties of Crystals and stones. This time around we’ll be covering

Moldavite, Tectites, and other rare crystals.

These are stones that you’re going to want to know about.

Starwolf will be talking with Tchipakkan about some of the less well known crystals on the New Normal. They’ll be talking about what these stones are, and their special useful properties.

April 22, 2016 4-20-16 Deb Jarvis Coyoteskywoman New Tech and Ancient Religions

While the age of the Internet and social media has had many positive benefits, there has been a strong downside to the increased web connectivity. With a new generation of up and coming witches and pagans making their way into adulthood, now more than ever, there is a lack of diverse groups to support them. The few groups that have survived the technological transition see an increasing influx of people seeking to make an actual connection to each other and the divine. Join us as we explore the changes over the last twenty years as the web online has all but supplanted the process of traditional web weaving.

April 29, 2016 4-27-16 Prison Ministry Charles Butler and Janine Marie Gorham

Please join Tchipakkan and her guests Charles Butler Neto and Janine Marie as we talk about the challenges of helping pagans in prisons. Given the common assumption that prisoner’s will reform if they “let Jesus into their hearts”, some pagans find a less than hospitible environment to express their spirituality in a prison environment.
Charles Butler Neto is an interfaith minister with Rising Sun Outreach Ministry currently in school at Howard University School of Divinity majoring in Divinity with a minor in Public Policy and Education. He works as a prison subject matter expert in Pagan traditions (Wicca, Asatru, Umbanda, Santeria). He writes letters to incarcerated people and prison chaplains, especially prisoners in Administrative Sequester. The field of prison ministry for Pagans is growing but we can always use more help.

Janine Marie, as present President of the Maine Pagan Clergy Association, and has been active in the Pagan Community in Maine since 2000, Priestess/Gythja and Healer and Mentor. JanineMarie has been a practising Heathen for seven years, and is in Service to her Gods, Kin, Ancestors and Community.

May 4, 2016 Maryalyce Merrit Manifesting Abundance

Maryalyce Merrit how to Manifest Abundance
Please join Tchipakkan and Maryalyce on the New Normal 8 pm Wednesday, May 4th, 8-9 p.m. est. as we talk about how to get what we want (not what we fear).
Everything in the world has an energy or vibration, and by using the inherant properties of everything from crystals to herbs to times of day or season, we can work with the flow, not against it.
Let’s discuss abundance! For some of us, this is the beginning of vending season, we’ll talk about how to tap into the energy of abundance and not get stuck in the scarcity mindset out of fear. We will discuss essential oils, deities, stones, herbs, and runes that you can work with to bless your cash box, cash, and vending set up. How to use “self talk” to avoid sabotaging ourselves. Do you have your own business? For those in less seasonal, or more “mundane” jobs, we can cover things we can do to make check books, atm cards, & pay stubs into magickal charms to power your move toward positive goals.
Do you need help with your techniques? Do you have experiences to share, something that’s worked for you?
Please call in with any stories or questions: 619-639-4606

“She changes everything she touches and everything she touches changes”

Maryalyce (aka Akasha’s Heart) has been practicing witchcraft and the magickal arts since 1994. She is an ordained minister, priestess, ritualist, writer, teacher, and healer. She is a member of the Hands On Trade Association, is a Reiki Master Instructor and Practitioner, Advanced Level IET Practitioner, Run Valdr Instructor and Practitioner, and teacher of such things like reading Tarot and Medicine Cards, Introduction to Wicca, Introduction to Witchcraft, Witch-Crafting (making magickal tools), How to Organize/Construct/Lead Rituals, and others. With her passion for just about all things esoteric, metaphysical, astrological, and deeply spiritual, she decided to follow her soul’s journey to feed, educate, and empower the world community. This may be in the form of oracle readings for seekers, healing sessions, healing circles, or Reiki instruction among others. As a dog lover, she extends this healing to not only dogs, but other animals and familiars as well. Maryalyce is an ABCDT Certified Dog Trainer, and she and her rescued dog, Cody, are a registered Delta Society Pet Partner therapy team. Akasha’s Journey has evolved from the same passion for magickal living and crafting tools and items for people and their pets to assist them on their own journeys. Part of Maryalyce’s dream is to make healing & learning how to heal accessible to the community and the people who truly desire it, and of course, the beautiful animals who cannot ask for it themselves.

May 11, 2016 Kirsten  Tarot Various layouts

I’ve been doing Tarot for about 50 years now, and both know several layouts, and make them up as I need to. If you’d like to have a reading on something (and don’t mind having “the whole world” listening in, please call.

If you to are a Tarot reader and want to call in and compare techniques, please feel free to call and we can chat. Not every technique works well for every reader, and your perspective may be better than mine for someone in the audience. Or we can share stories!

I plan to talk about the common 10 card “Celtic Cross” spread, the “yes-no” spread, various 3 card spreads, single card focus spreads, mixed deck readings, reduced deck readings, and the 12 card year reading. I’ve done full deck spread once, but it’s incredibly time consuming.

This program I don’t plan to talk about different meanings for the cards, but simply spreads or layouts, and how that works with the reading.

May 18, 2016 Kirsten Houseknect Tarot Symbolism & numbers

We’ve asked Kirsetn back to talk about Tarot, and share with us her insights on using the symbolism of numbers, and other patterns in reading Tarot.

“Kirsten studied Tarot both Formally with teachers, and informally with self study for years. After researching the symbols and number meanings used in the original Tarot images of the “Rider waite” deck, she finally moved past the difficulty of reading the minor arcana, AND found new ways to get overall answers from a spread.

Tchipakkan’s guest on the New Normal this Wednesday (May 25th) will be Thor Halvorsen. As a Pagan and an advocate for the Deaf, Thor has seen issues many of us may have been totally unaware- and has been working on developing the specialized vocabulary for American Sign Language (ASL). As the event image for the sign for Witch shows (although it is the British sign), it is based on the hooked nose of the traditional hag, and not particularly appropriate for modern Wiccans and other neo-pagans who happen to be deaf.

Thor is currently working on a book which will deal with many issues from forced conversions during colonization, the historical degrading of not just pagans, but women, and folks with disabilities (including the Eugenic’s movement). He’ll discuss how signs are often developed for non-pagan, non-deaf people for use by those for whom it is most pertinent.

I’m pleased to share this because of The Christopher Columbus Effect: the Deaf world exists and possible members unawares, AND Deaf are unaware of Pagan/Wiccan world exists. Thor would like to spread awareness that the language construct is a cultural extension, requiring symbols, vocabulary, etiquette, ritual, rites of passage, tools, dieties, and interpretations all of their own, and so the language will only be valid and thus accepted if those of the community accept and recognize these vocabulary as being fitting and representative of their culture, and are willing to adopt them into wider usage.

June 1, 2016 Taylor Elwood Pop Culture Magic

Have you ever watched a television show, or read a book and been inspired to work magick based on what you’ve seen or read? If you have, you’re not alone in thinking that. More and more people are discovering that the modern mythology of pop culture has answers for their spirituality and approach to magick.

Pop culture is the mythology of our times, offering us a universe full of new gods, stories, practical magickal techniques and a lot more! It is a reflection of the need for magick to change and evolve with the times. With Pop Culture Magick you can take the cartoon characters of today and make them into the elder gods of tomorrow.

In this book you will learn how to:

Create Pop Culture godforms and entities
Invoke yourself into a godform or a person
Integrate pop culture into existing magickal paradigms
Charge sigils by playing video games
And much, much more!

But don’t take my word for it:

“Taylor has, in a quiet way, forced minds to work. I have to wonder how many Ah HA!’s sounded across campuses and in homes after the book was released. Taylor has found the bridge between generations and explained the path in such a way that no one should be able to walk away from the book confused” By Ierne, Editor of Pagan Muse

I’m Taylor Ellwood. I’m a mad scientist, magical experimenter and a publisher of cutting edge esoteric books. I’m always developing new systems of magic, combining various magical practices and techniques with other disciplines and practices. I also teach classes on magic, provide tarot readings, and offer one-on-one magical apprenticeships for anyone looking to expand their spiritual horizons and change the way they understand practice magic. Oh and did I mention I’m also a business/author coach.

I have a broad and extensive background in both Western and Eastern esoteric practices including Taoism, Dzogchen, Chaos magic, neoshamanism, Hermeticism, Quabalah, and so on and so forth. But I’m interested in more than just the esoteric traditions and because I believe in living a holistic life, I think its important to apply everything I know to my spiritual practices (and vice versa) so you won’t just find me exploring magic, but also business, science, literacy, and other topics, in order to apply all of them to each other and as a result experiment with what I can do as a magician and a human being. If that appeals to you, then this site is for you and I look forward to working with you. Learn more about my approach to teaching magic. June 8, 2016 Correspondences between Major and Minor Arcana’s http://tobtr.com/s/8966449

I’ve asked Kirsten Houseknect back for more talk about Tarot. This time she’ll be pointing out how there are correspondences between cards in the major and minor arcanas, which allow the cards to mention the same thing more than once in a reading, which allows us to get more clairity.

Kirsten studied Tarot both Formally with teachers, and informally with self study for many years. After researching the symbols and number meanings used in the original Tarot images of the “Rider waite” deck, she finally moved past the difficulty of reading the minor arcana, AND found new ways to get overall answers from a spread.

June 24, 2016 Charles Butler Neto helping pagans in prisons http://tobtr.com/s/9025493http://tobtr.com/s/9025493

IN AND OUT – Working with incarcerated and returning citizens. Being willing to visit people in prison is less than half the battle. How does one create an atmosphere of forgiveness, restitution, and restoration for returning citizens. Charles Butler shares his experience from working with the parole office more than 40 years ago to visiting maximum security prisons and being a part of Healing Ministries, a network of teachers working to bring together churches, temples, synagogues, masjids, community centers and other groups to work with the entire range of prison ministry. Call in with questions.

Please join Tchipakkan and her guests Charles Butler Neto as we talk about the challenges of helping pagans in prisons. Last month when we (Janine Marie Goram and Tchipakkan) spoke about this, Charles was unable to join us, so we’ve asked him to come back so as not to miss his perspective. Charles works with the practitioners of Santaria, Umbanda, as well as Wiccans in his ministry, and each carries its own challenges (as we noted with Heathen).

Charles recently had an amazing visit with the Ooni (High King) of Ile Ifa in Nigeria (the head of the Ifa religion) and Baba Alatunde (King of the African village of Alatunde in South Carolina) about prison ministry. I am so eager to hear more about the efforts to keep the indiginous Nigerian religion alive.

Another huge issue Charles is working with is how to help people stay out of jail after release. (about 75% are back in jail within a year). Charles is working with the grassroots organization HealingCommunitiesUSA.com USA for an alternative to these depressing statistics.

6-30-16 Sha Blackburn “the Loonwitch” Professional Psychics http://tobtr.com/s/9052447

The LoonWitch got her start at a young age working with a natural divination form called augury. Though she was too young at the time to understand what she was doing, it helped to hear validation from friends and neighbors when her predictions would come true.  Around the age of 12 she started working with The Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling cards, and progressed to the Tarot, Runes, Angel, Crystal, Pendulum readings and Aura Photography. She is also a Reiki Master, and ordained minister, and magickal practitioner.

These days the LoonWitch is a student of life, and a teacher of many subjects. She is an internationally known psychic balancing her passion with the need for a corporate job
and time for her family.

While Sha travels all over the world reading in different venues, this Friday she will be opening her own office space in Taunton where she will see clients for readings, healing and whatever else! Do check out her website http://www.loonwitch.com/ for more information, and listen live on Wednesda, when you’ll be able to call in with questions on any of these topics.

July 13, 2016 comics/modern mythologycomics/modern mythology Deb Jarvis

Deb Hanscom Jarvis talks about Comics and their mythological role in the modern world.
While Myths are non-factual stories, at the core they express the deepest truths of a culture. Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine, even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, each of these characters provide recent generations with expressions of how the world works, what it means to be a hero, or human, or part of a group or an outsider trying to be part of a group. In the middle ages fairy tale characters were often

oyote Skywomanpoor youngest sons or daughters. Often modern heroes are socially awkward when not playing their costumed role, and this speaks to modern issues with identity. Their attributes reflect abilities we see ourselves as needing.

Myths, taken from old traditions, as well as the way neo-pagans see and interact with the ancient gods are different than they were first recorded. Characters and themes from old cultures are reworked in modern stories, gaming, and even religion. Myths express world view. Humans need myths to understand our world. Please listen and join this conversation.
CoyoteSkyWoman has been a member of the Pagan community in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for the last 25 years, and she has been a practicing shaman for only a little bit longer than that. She works closely with the trickster spirit, Coyote, and has worked with The Sagefire Fellowship and A Sacred Place since their inceptions.

July 15, 2016 7-20-16 Zhenya Amditis Talking to SPirits/ Physical Symptoms from Psychic Blocks

We’ll be talking about the problems that can happen when we try to repress our psychic gifts. The modern “rational culture” often presses us to not believe in our abilities, when it doesn’t tell us to fear them. (I’d love to have a dollar for every person I know who started working with the psychic or occult and then stopped when they found out it worked!) Our world invests a great deal of effort to convince us that we are only imagining what we experience, and that it isn’t real. Sadly, when we block our abilities, because of the body-mind-spirit connection, those blocks can result in physical symptoms. Unsurprisingly, these are difficult for modern doctors to diagnose and treat. Zhenya has been studying these issues with her clients and how to deal with them, and we’ll be talking about what she has learned. Do call in if you have questions. . http://tobtr.com/s/9113005

Zhenya has been communicating with the spirit realm since the age of three. Today, not only does she possess academic expertise in the occult arts (particularly divination), but she also has approximately 30 years of experience helping people to answer life’s questions through the tarot, spirit mediumship, and direct communication with a client’s spirit guides and the angels. Zhenya holds a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures focusing on literature and culture of the Victorian era, particularly the connection between women, folklore, and the occult. In addition to over 20 years of experience teaching at the college level and mentoring students, she has published research on the religious renaissance of turn-of-the-century Russia, including the influence of Buddhism and Hinduism in Russia. She currently serves on the faculty of Westchester Community College, where she teaches courses on English composition, angels, tarot, fairies, Russian culture, and folklore.

September 28, 2016 Zhenya Amditis Rebooting Spiritual Practice http://tobtr.com/s/9500675

In spirituality as in life, there are cycles of ebb and flow where one feels more or less committed and active in various areas such as one’s health, family, passions. When other challenges distract us from our connection with Spirit, it is beneficial and even necessary to allow those challenges to lead us to a new level in our journey. We will talk about specific steps to take your spiritual growth to the next level.

Zhenya has been communicating with the spirit realm since the age of three. October 26, 2016 Raven Kaldera Plant Spirits

(lots of strange liquid distortion on this one)

Raven Kaldera is a Northern Tradition shaman, homesteader, diviner, psychic vampire, herbalist, intersex/ transgender activist, Ordeal Master, Speaker for the Transgendered Dead, polyamorous parent, and author of many, many books, articles, and short stories. Raven is a builder of bridges between worlds, a crosser of boundaries between communities, a Reweaver of the Web. He is the Dreamer Whose Dreams Come True. “‘Tis an ill wind that blows no minds.”

Raven and Tchipakkan will be talking about the plant spirits, communicating with them, and how this can really help when you are trying to work with plants for healing and magick. There will also be some fun stories- like when Raven was given a hard time by a vegetable. The pagan community is often eager to talk about working with animal spirits, but plant spirits are there, and incredibly eager to work with and help us.

At Changing Times-Changing Worlds Raven will be doing workshops on Consent-Focused Ritual, Six Ways of Being Pagan, &

Trusting Divination

November 2, 2016  This shit is real with Jane Sibley

This weekend the Changing Times-Changing Worlds conference is happening in Cromwell CT with workshops on Divination, Magick, Healing, Spiritual practice and other stuff that some people don’t accept as part of the real world. But it is, and the world will work better if we can just dump this stupid division between science and all the things science says aren’t acceptable. It’s real, deal with it!

Tchipakkan, the host of the New Normal, and Jane Sibley started the conference seven years ago to help try to get people to start talking about the paranormal in the real world. Until we can accept it, figure out how it works, and how to make it useful, we’re going to keep handicapping ourselves. During our lives we’ve watched as things from chiropractic, homeopathy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine have gradually become accepted (although they are still pooh poohed by some doctors). ESP has become accepted. It’s no longer a question of if it exists, but how can we use it, and what are the risks and benefits?

November 9, 2016  (holiday?)

November 16, 2016 Occult Day why is it not “Normal”?

So how do you feel about being just another “cute fringe idea”? Why is it that if a movie has something occult in it, it’s defined as a “horror” movie? Let’s talk about why it is when most humans have abilities to sense, to heal, to be aware of the energies of other beings, to effect the world around them, why is it that it’s “para” normal, “super” natural, and occult. It’s freaking normal. It’s the way the world is! Why are people made uncomfortable by it, and how do we deal with the reactions of people who are willfully ignorant of what we’ve come to accept?

November 22, 2016 Havamal Rune Query w/ Jane Sibley

This is the Icelandic (although I understand that in the original they abbreviated the Vet du after the first line).

Vet du, hur du rista skall?
Vet du, hur du reda skall?

Vet du, hur du färga skall?
Vet du, hur du fresta skall?

Vet du, hur du bedja skall?
Vet du, hur du blota skall?

Vet du, hur du sända skall?
Vet du, hur du slopa skall?

So my interpretation comes out to:

Do you know how to carve runes? Do you know what they mean?

Do you know how to color them? Do you know how to check them?

Do you know how to ask for help? Do you know how to pay for it?

Do you know how to send them on? Do you know how to clean up after yourself?

November 30, 2016 The Wild Hunt

Ghost Armies of the Night

From earliest times, there have been reports of groups of specteral entities, often in the sky, often dangerous to encounter, although not always, commonly called the Wild Hunt, and associated with the dark time of the year. These reports have continued in every period, up to the modern song Ghostriders in the Sky. One might even include Santa Claus as a part of this tradition, especially when some of the earliest versions were also bringers of gifts and blessings.

Tchipakkan will talk about many of these traditions

The Wild (or Infernal) Hunt, Herlaþing, Hounds of Annwn, Wilde Jagd, Noisy Riders, in folklore are tales of an army of spirits who could be heard passing on winter nights, and if directly encountered was dangerous to body and soul. From souls of sinners or unbaptized babes to pagan gods, these were objects of horror, pity and danger, or at least contact with the divine. I’ll try to cover as many versions as I can, from the Benadanti through the cursed huntsmen, to the Krampus connection.

December 7, 2016 Raising Pagan Children with magick

I’ve raised four children openly pagan in our small town, and they are now adults with various spiritual paths, and comfortable with magick.  The most difficult bit was probably the same as many other people have this time of year- convincing the kids not to spoil the beliefs of other kids about Santa (I’ll talk more about that).

When first generation pagan parents start bringing their kids up, they don’t have the generations of tradition to draw on, it’s hard to go to your parents for advice if they are still dealing with their own discomfort with your choices, and let’s face it, for many on the Wiccan path, this mystery religion wasn’t really designed to work with small children and other aspects of families.  So for the last decades neo-pagans have been working on ways of dealing with the challenges. Celebrate Yule at Solstice, but go to Grandma’s for Christmas?

And magick- at what point do you think it’s OK to teach the kids how to cast? How do you help them resist the efforts of school and society to convince them this stuff is all imagination?  I can share my perspective and experience, but hope other pagan parents will call in with theirs.

December 14, 2016 The Spirit of the Bear with Rose Starwind

In recent times, many people have come to embrace the indigenous concept of the totem, the spirit guide, animal guide, guardian.  a common association is with the bear.  Bear is understood in many cultures to be kindred to humanity, one of the reasons being it can stand on two legs!  But what does it mean to have spirit kinship with the bear?  how does this relationship inform our choices, move our emotions, affect our relationships?  We’ll talk about the practical and pragmatic as well as the magickal and spiritual implications of this relationship.

December 21, 2016 Shadows of things that will be, or that may be?

In Dicken’s Christmas Carol Scrooge (and the audience) is taught by spirits or ghosts. One of the questions Scrooge asks is “Answer me one more question. Are these the shadows of things that *will* be, or are they the shadows of things that *may* be only?” (and the spirit only points to his gravestone). Interesting that the spirit of the future remains silent isn’t it?

This is one of the core questions any time we discuss divination or looking into the future, whether by astrology, visions or any other means. If it doesn’t happen, does that mean you blew the reading, and if it is pre-destined and you can’t escape it, why bother?

“Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead,” said Scrooge. “But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. Say it is thus with what you show me.”

This is the point of this podcast (and if you already understand that, don’t bother listening, get on with your Solstice celebrations).

December 28, 2016 Bear Cothran. Making Magick http://tobtr.com/s/9711033

I was talking to Bear the other day about magick being better for healing people than healing cars, and he said “it’s a different type of magick.”

As Bach said in Jonathan Livingston Seagull- it’s not believing you can fly, it’s learning how. We need to learn HOW magick works. My listeners may have noticed that I prefer Thaumaturgy to Theurgy (definitions below). I like to “do it myself”, rather than ask those more powerful for favors.

Bear pointed out that both that overlap at times. “For me, weaving a spell means using my hands to build and craft a thing. It doesn’t matter if it’s food or steel, leather or wood, when I make a thing, it is an act of creation and I can’t help but put a bit of magick to it..“

I thought this would make a great conversation to share on The New Normal. So tune in on Wednesday at 8
