The first day of March is Baba Marta’s Day/ Granny March’s Day, Beer Day (Iceland), Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant (Wales- wear a leek or a daffodil), Gwyl o Merriddyn (at sundown), Hollow Earth Day, it’s the final day of the Intercalary Days (Bahai), Whuppity Scoorie Day is celebrated March 1-7 (Lanark, Scotland), Omizutori/S hunie begins (March 1-14 in Japan), in the Yukon they have the Ice Worm Squirm. In Ancient Rome the Feriae Marti festival went from March 1-24, but the Strenua/Strenia, and Matronalia, were on the first, Old Roman New Year’s Day. The 1st Monday of March is Casimir Pulaski Day, and the first three days are called the Sharp Days. This is the saints day for St. David (patron poets, vegetarians, Wales), St. Swithbert (patron against angina), and St. Alben of Angers (patron against Pirate attack).

This week is Peace Corps Week 23-3/1 and National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (Feb 23 – Mar 1, 2014)
